Tutorial - How to Make a Dupatta Design – Cape Style

http://akioneam.com/dupatta-design-cape-style/
Get creative styling your DIY cape

Tutorial at AKI 1 a.m. Blog

"Today’s DIY is an easy dupatta design in the trending cape style, inspired by the likes of Tarun Tahiliani and Pratyusha Garimella. I converted a basic off-white hand-loom dupatta into a edge dye (natural dyeing) dupatta cape with placement embroidery. You could use net dupatta with ready embroidery, printed Georgette dupatta, multi-colored silk dupatta or any fabric of 2.5 mtr of your choice. I will be showing a step-by-step tutorial of the dupatta cape – from neckline shaping, embroidery attaching to edge dyeing".... Read more

Dress up a plain tea towel with crocheted appliques

Tutorial at Made By Greta Blog

"A while ago I visited two of my best friends in Germany that had just recently moved house. I wanted to bring a little something for them but couldn’t think what I could make – until coincidentally I saw a book sitting on my book shelf (it is German and contains many mini crochet ideas).  As my friends have a great new kitchen I decided to pimp a tea towel.  It took me about two evenings to finish the whole project".... Tutorial - How to Applique with Scribbly Stitching

http://www.threadingmyway.com/2015/06/how-to-applique-with-scribbly-stitching.html
Get free applique robot templates on this blog

Tutorial at Threading My Way Blog

"The other day I showed you how to use an appliqué template to prepare shapes and fuse them onto fabric. Today I'll show you the method I often use to stitch raw edge appliqué. I call it scribbly stitching, but I've also seen it referred to as wonky stitching or sketchy stitching. The double sided fusible webbing glues the fabric together, but it's not strong enough to stay in position over time. Small pieces will fall off very easily if not stitched. Larger pieces will stay on longer, but possibly not after a few washes. When I first began appliquéing, I always used a zig zag stitch as the final step in the process. Whilst I still like and use a zig zag stitch, for appliqué work where the pieces are irregular or small, I prefer scribbly stitching".... Read more

Design has a modest V-neckline, and hangs  loose from the bust to emphasize the smaller waist

Tutorial at So Sew Easy Blog

"You know sometimes how you look about and everyone seems to be wearing the same thing, the same styles, the same colors?  That’s especially true on a small island where there are only a few places you can buy clothes anyway, so its no wonder everyone has the same pieces.  So I set out to make myself a dress.  Something I could wear to dinner, or if I had to go somewhere smart, or heaven-forbid, ever get a job".... Tutorial - Tips for Instant Iron Ons

http://craftylawyercreates.blogspot.com/2015/02/tips-using-instant-iron-ons.html
How to Apply Iron-On Transfers, with photos and step by step

Tutorial at Crafty Lawyer Blog

"Sometimes I like to use ready made iron-ons for a quick fix on the shirts I sew for the kids.  I get the iron-ons from Amazon or sometimes Jo Anns.   At first, my transfers did not stick to the shirt, or looked faded.  After doing quite a bit of them, I realized I had some tips that might help others to get a clean and dark iron-on transfer.   Of course the preferred and easiest way of applying iron-ons is with a  heat-press machine.  Sadly, because of budgeting issues  (or lack of a budget) I'm not going to get a heat-press anytime soon.  So these are applied with a regular iron" Read more

Tutorial - How to Make an Appliqued Journal

http://sewforsoul.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/appliqued-teachers-journal.html
Raw edge applique allows you to use your sewing machine needle in the same way as a pencil

Tutorial at Sew for Soul Blog

"Journals make great gifts for just about any occasion or person and the actual covers are very easy to make.  The design you choose to decorate it with can then be as complex (or simple!) as you like.  Firstly measure the outside of your notebook being sure to include the depth of the spine.  Then add on a couple of centimeters to both the height and width for your seam allowances. I used more than one fabric for the background of my design, but just one colour would still be equally effective".... Read more

Combination of embroidery and applique brings a design together beautifully

Tutorial at Untrendy Life Blog

"To think, that I almost did not finish making this project! I was ready to discard it when it was in the early stages. It looked like a poor, ugly duckling and did not in any way match the vision I had. Until I decided to just keep working on it. It was amazing to see how stitch after stitch it blossomed and  became one of my favorite projects. When I first saw Kati's embroidery transfer patterns, I knew I wanted to try combining applique and embroidery".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make do Raindrops Applique

A tutorial on reverse applique

Applique Tutorial at Green Issues by Agy Blog

"I started to get interested in applique when I found the Alabama Stitch book in the library.  I think applique is a great way to cover up food stains, small tears and even ironing boo boos! This is my first reverse applique tutorial and it was featured on my Channel News Asia interview.  What's so funny is it's been raining buckets for the past few days (and even flooded) so I suppose you could say this tutorial is in homage to the skies".... Applique Pillow Tutorial at Miss P Blog

"Recently, the owner of the gallery/gift shop where I sold my handmade jewelry mentioned that she was short of a maker to supply her with textiles for her shop. (Er, hello? Did I mention I sew?) Not being one to overlook an opportunity, I whipped these up for her....I've split the how to for this into 2 parts because I didn't want to make it too long (there are lot's of photos!) So part 1 concerns creating the applique front. Part 2 (to follow) will concern the actual construction of the cushion cover itself".... Read more
