Elastic closure keeps loose papers inside

Tutorial at Patchwork Posse Blog

"My kids use a lot of composition books.  They use them for piano lessons, quick notes, journals and homeschool assignments.  They are they perfect size for tucking into a bag or leaving around the house so you can quickly find something to write an idea down or whatever you’d like!  The problem with composition book covers, their covers aren’t that great looking.  An easy way to cover that up is with fabric.  What’s even better is that it becomes personalized".... Tutorial - How to Make a Laminated Book Bag

http://www.thetartankiwi.com/2014/06/book-bag-tutorial.html
Relatively simple construction using laminated cotton

Tutorial at The Tartankiwi Blog

"Here in New Zealand, parents of primary school children are asked to provide their child with a "large waterproof velcro closing book bag."  These bags are used to protect school books from the evils of squished bananas, split yoghurt pots and whatever other perils lie at the bottom of a child's school bag.  When Rascal started school, I made her book bag rather than buying one of the yawn inducing ones that I found in the shops".... Tutorial - How to Make a Nook Book Holder

Nook holder made from with an old book

Tutorial at Maiden Jane Blog

"My daughter, whose room is stacked floor to ceiling (literally) with books, was adamantly opposed to any type of e-reader. I think it was a matter of principle, and I understand that. She had started reading some library books on her Ipod. We use Overdrive to read and/or listen to selections from our libraries. But she had mentioned that while reading books in her loft bed at night the light was too bright for her roommate. When I saw a $39 Nook deal before Christmas, I thought it would be a nice gift for her. Just something she could load some books on for those middle-of-the-night-can't-sleep reads. There was one problem, I didn't know that the basic Nook required lighting. Problem not solved. So she upgraded her Nook to one that has adjustable lighting. She didn't get one with online access, so she still needs to hook it up to her computer to transfer files to it. But she likes it".... Read more

Book Cover Tutorial at Stitch by Stitch Blog

"I decided that I am going to include quite a few handmade gifts for Christmas this year, so I have been very busy sewing cute and fun items.  Because most of my family live 100's to 1000's of kilometers away, and because we wont be seeing them, I wanted to get it done as soon as possible to make sure it gets to their destination in time. My oldest Son, (almost 18) asked if I could make his girlfriend a little something too.  So together we decided a pencil bag together with a fabric book cover would be great.  So today I thought of showing you exactly how I made the fabric book cover".... Tutorial - How to Make a Paperback Book Cover

This cover has a built in bookmark

Book Cover Tutorial at Make it Easy Crafts Blog

"Summer is the time for lazy days relaxing on the beach or by a pool.  Most people, like me, like to take some reading material with them.  Actually I take my reading material with me at all times.  I have books on my iphone, ipad and kindle.  Taking those things to the beach, though, is not something I like to do.  Sand and water is not exactly good for electronics.  So I go back to bringing a good old page-turner—a real book.  This easy, no sew, book carrier has a bookmark built right in so you will never lose your place.  My book, is 5" x 8" one of the larger paperback that are so popular today"....
