Tutorial - How to Make Flower Pincushions

http://hopeandgloria.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/flower-power-pin-cushions.html
Keep your pins tidy and add a splash of color

Tutorial at Hope and Gloria Blog

"Although it's possibly not the most sophisticated of flowers, I am rather fond of the sunflower. I have always loved their cheerful faces and was disappointed to find out that they don't actually turn their "heads" towards the sun, as I always thought this was a lovely image. It's currently sunflower season and I have seen plenty of these lovely, striking blooms for sale in the local florist. Maybe next year I shall get around to growing my own. They featured in this fantastic bunch of flowers that I received as a "Thank you" gift at the end of term and this got me thinking of a new design for a pincushion".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make a Strawberry Pincushion

http://hopeandgloria.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/super-sweet-strawberry.html
Easy and cute pincushion can be made in an afternoon

Tutorial at Hope & Gloria Blog

"In our home the start of the summer holidays is usually closely followed by fruit picking. It's a fun activity that we all join in with and it also means a tasty treat along the way. We went fruit picking a week ago and came home laden with a basket full of raspberries which were quickly transformed in to eleven jars of delicious jam. Our efforts with strawberries were less successful and it proved to be a fruitless task (apologies for that pun".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make a Daisy Pincushion

http://hopeandgloria.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/crazy-daisy-pin-cushion-tutorial.html
Simple project is ideal for using up scraps of felt

Tutorial at Hope & Gloria Blog

"There is no doubt that the humble pin-cushion is a must for any sewing enthusiast.  We have given up on pin wheels in our sewing clubs as the pins kept falling out and we have returned to good old fashioned fabric pin cushions to keep things tidy, not to mention safe(!)  Needless to say the children love these Crazy Daisy Pin Cushions and they really brighten things up. As well as making them for practical reasons it has been fun to exercise my creativity on a small scale.  They are great for using up scraps as well as looking cute. Here's how to make them".... Fold up and take to another room, or better yet, make one for each room that you lounge in

Tutorial at Patchwork Posse Blog

"Night is kind of the best time to sit and relax….and nothing is better for relaxing then some hand stitching.  What I find though is I loose my scissors, miss place the thread, and who knows how many buttons and other goodies are tucked in between the cushions or behind pillows.  To save a little bit of frustration, the arm chair pin cushion and sewing pocket is perfect".... Tutorial - Make a Vintage Embroidery Pin Cushion

http://www.patchworkposse.com/vintage-embroidery-pin-cushion-pattern/
Turn a needlework project or embroidery into a cute pin cushion

Tutorial at Patchwork Posse Blog

"At some point along the way in my growing up years I was given a purple velvet and small squared needle point or embroidered pin cushion.  I was told it was my great grandma Price’s.  That she had made some for the grandkids and I was one of the lucky recipients. This pin cushion has always been with me since.  It has crushed corners.  It is a little more worn.  But, I love it.  And occasionally I use it".... Read more

Choose two cute buttons and pretty fabric for your pincushion

Tutorial at Schimalto - Just Handmade Blog

"Cut a circle out of the paper with a diameter of 13 cm/5 inches. Now you can copy the circle onto your fabrics and cut them out. Lay the fabrics right sides together, so the nicer sides face each other. Use some pins to fix it.  Place the presser foot onto your fabrics, so the right sides end together with the presser foot. Stitch around the edge and leave an opening of 3-4cm/5-6 inches, so that you can turn your cusion inside-out".... Read more

Use a ladder stitch for a tidy seam closure

Tutorial at Cocojude Blog

"This is just a quick and easy idea for a pincushion more than a tutorial. It is a great scrapbuster though (I like a good scrapbuster!). I made this pincushion for my mum, who is just getting into sewing. I already seem to have lots of pincushions, including a crochet cupcake and my slightly tacky wooden one, which is the perfect size for sitting on my sewing machine while I sew. You need two squares of fabric in the same size, and four rectangles".... Read more

Tutorial - Make an Alphabet Block Pincushion

Foam filling makes a good square block

Tutorial at Crafty Staci Blog

"I’ve been wanting to make a new pincushion for a few years now.  I know, a basic pincushion is about as simple as it gets, so what was the hold up?  I wanted something different.  Something I hadn’t already seen out there with pins sticking out of it.  I starting thinking about what kinds of shapes would lend themselves to pin stickery, and I’m not sure how I got from there to here, but I’m happy with the results.  Do you want to know how to make one"..... Use denim or fabric scraps to make a giant pyramid pincushion

Tutorial at Makery Blog

"This is a project that is long overdue for me!  I’ve been working with a teeny pincushion for several years  and I’ve been hankering after something more substantial for a while now. I use several different types of pins depending on the fabric I’m sewing and my teeny pumpkin cushion just wasn’t cutting the mustard anymore….they wouldn’t all fit for a start, and I’d end up trying to fish out my fine steel pins from between the big round heads of my quilting pins".... Tutorial - How to Make a Magnetic Pin Cushion

http://ellaandnesta.blogspot.it/2015/01/how-to-make-two-sided-magnetic-fabric-pin-cushion-tutorial.html
Keep your pins tidy and handy.

Tutorial at Ella & Nesta's Little Room

"Magnetic pin cushions are really handy for keeping your pins in one place, the only problem is... they're not made of fabric! Traditional pin cushions are very useful when you have to take a pin without looking (because you're busy working on your quilt...) and you don't want to hurt yourself!  So how about a Two-Sided Magnetic (Fabric) Pin Cushion? On one side of the pin cushion a magnet keeps your pins in place, on the other side you can insert your pins when you need to".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make a Piped Pincushion

http://www.sewmccool.com/sew-piping-piped-pincushion/
Instruction on making piping is included

Tutorial at SewMcCool Blog

"I inherited my mother-in-law’s Bernina 1260 a couple of years ago, and I thought she had purchased every foot imaginable for that machine. So I assumed I had a piping foot! I assumed wrong. But…if you’re like me, without a piping foot, pull out your regular zipper foot (first photo below). That will work just fine!  Now cut your cording to 23in (58cm) and have the 22in (56cm) bias handy. Place the cording inside the bias, right in the fold on the wrong side of the fabric, with a little cord sticking out. Stitch it down, just at the beginning, so you won’t have to worry about pulling it out while you’re sewing".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make an Amigurumi Pin Cushion

http://carinascrafts.wordpress.com/2014/02/24/my-first-tute-free-pattern/
Crochet a spool of thread pin cushion for yourself or as a gift for a crafty friend

Tutorial at Carina's Crafts Blog

"I have been wanting to do this for a while and now understand why I have put it off. You need to note down all the details, remember to take photos at every step and hope that the project turns out ok. I have been wanting to write a tutorial that is. My inspiration came form this and this blue DMC yarn – although when I bought this I wasn’t completely convinced with this colour. I wanted to make something for 2 lovely ladies [who happen to be sisters] they love cute things and appreciate the handmade. As with most amigurumi the yarn and hook size is not critical. I used Semco Milford knitting crochet cotton thread and size 2 hook. So without further ado, here is my tute".... Read more

Tutorial - How to Make a Square Pincushion

Make the coordinating cording too

Pincushion Tutorial at Jo's Country Junction Blog

"Remember all those pins I bought earlier this week? Well they needed a home and I was in the mood for a quick finish so I whipped up a pincushion. It’s just the cutest little thing and trust me the pictures don’t do it justice.  All of the fabric is from the Moda line Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille.  Kelli and I have made two quilts with this so far and I still have scraps left over…so why not use it to make a pincushion ( true confession:  I was lazy and these were sitting on the cutting table and not put away so I decided to use them".... Tutorial - How to Make a Pincushion with a Jar Lid

Bonus ~ fill the jar with sewing goodies (ie buttons)

Pin Cushion Tutorial at Muse of the Morning Blog

"I am so in love with these pincushions! They are very simple- I like to cut out a bunch of the circles and strips at one time and put them together and then do the embroidery part while watching Sabine play in the park. They are really a lot of fun. And coordinating the embroidery to the fabric is fun too.  Of course, its lovely to recycle the lid and you can also do this with a 2 liter bottle- or really any size bottle cap. Just measure the top part out accordingly- the diameter of the circle should be about 3 times the diameter of the bottle cap. For 2 liter bottles, you can also use wool felt for the top part too".... Tutorial - How to Make a Gear Pincushion

Make a pincushion with a fun quirky shape

Pincushion Tutorial at Michelle's Romantic Tangle Blog

"The first die I bought for my Sizzix Big Shot was Gadget Gears. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew I wanted to do something. Since I made a biscornu pincushion for my mom a few years back, I've been fascinated by the shape. I'd heard that it's a French word which translates to "oddly shaped." When I Googled it myself, I came up with "quirky," "tortuous," "crooked," and "odd-looking." Hopefully "quirky" is the only one of those that applies to this project!   I absolutely drool over all of the wonderful depth and texture that the scrapbookers achieve with their die cuts and I wanted to see what I could do with fabric. That meant a pieced background and lots of dense quilting".... Read more
